Restoration in Bath

Summary

This project involved the full refurbishment of casement windows at a property in Bath, Somerset. Focusing on both interior and exterior restoration. The work has be carried out on the right-side elevation and includes the refurbishment of four double casement windows, one double casement window, and one triple casement window. The restoration process has ensured a durable and high-quality finish while maintaining the integrity of the existing timber. Minor repairs have been included in the scope of work.

Specification of Works

The refurbishment process began with the removal of the opening inserts from the frames, followed by the removal of the existing hinges. New hinges were then installed, and adjustments will be made to the opening windows where required to ensure proper functionality. The windows and frames were thoroughly prepared for painting, including rubbing down all surfaces and removing any loose or flaking paint back to a firm base.

Any areas of rotten timber were removed, and wood hardener was applied to stabilise the remaining structure. Specialist repair care resin was then used to rebuild and mould the timber to its original profile. Where necessary, putty was then replaced to ensure a secure and weatherproof finish.

All bare timbers were then primed to protect against moisture ingress, and where space allows, a bespoke draught excluder was then fitted to improve energy efficiency. Beading was then caulked to achieve a seamless finish, and windows were then taped to ensure clean sight lines during painting. A full paint system was then applied, consisting of one undercoat and two topcoats of Satin White paint. Fine filling was also  required between coats to ensure a smooth and flawless finish.

The HRG team worked together meticulously in order to complete this job to a high standard and to the Clients specification and approval.
