This beautiful cottage was in need of rotten window repairs in Hampshire. Set in the heart of Fordingbridge was built in the early part of the 17th Century and is a Grade II listed building. It is timber-framed and has a painted brick infill with a slate roof. In a Grade II listed building timber framed windows can normally be repaired without the need to obtain permission, so we were able to go ahead and work on this much needed refurbishment. As you can see the wooden frames and cills were in serious need of a complete restoration. The wood had become rotten and had to be removed and replaced with new timber.
The damaged rotten window cill had to be completely removed and was replaced with a new hardwood cill. The joints were treated with our resin repair care system to prevent the ingress of water and keep the new cill protected from future water damage. The lower rotten timber was taken back to sound wood and again treated with resin to ensure the frame was solid and stable. 4 broken window panes were replaced and these required new putty, and when everything had dried out it all needed to be sanded and primed with an undercoat. We then did a second fill on any imperfections and these areas were sanded and spot primed to ensure a smooth even finish, ready for the final topcoat using our specialist Remmers paints.
We pride ourselves on the expertise of our specialist teams who make sure that the finished look is crisp and neat, especially when we paint the topcoat where the glazing and putty line meet. With the time and money that was spent to bring this cottage back to top condition, we only use high quality paint that gives a long lasting and durable finish. This will maintain its look and protect the new wood for a long time to come, and the final outcome looks great!!
Great job, lovely team to work with, the building looks fantastic
