HRG Services were contracted to carry out restoration for a lovely client for their sash windows in Poole. These homes were originally built with an elegant Georgian facade and are part of a gated community near Poole Quay. The Sash windows on these properties show the charm and elegance of the period-inspired design, with a ‘3 over 6’ configuration. As with all styles of timber windows they need regular care and maintenance to ensure that the windows continue to work well and run smoothly. Cracking and flaking of the paintwork is a common problem which if left can result in more serious problems with the wood swelling or even rotting which will inevitably require professional repair or even replacement. It is a much better option, especially in period properties, to maintain the original windows in keeping with their original design and character.
As you can see from the ‘before’ photographs these windows needed to be completely stripped back and sanded to remove all the loose paint, and required some minor repairs to the external frame. Any putty that had become dry or cracked was removed and replaced, and once the dust and debris had been cleaned away, the wooden sections of each individual frame were then taped. This helps to prevent paint from leaking onto the window pane and gives a nice straight line.
The windows were then primed and given a top coat of our specialist paints that will prolong the appearance and durability of the windows. When the painting had been completed the hinges, locks and catches were checked to make sure that the windows moved freely without damaging the new paintwork.
We were really pleased with the end results and the photographs of the finished work show what a great transformation this was, and has improved the look and life span of this property.
Great job, lovely team to work with, the building looks fantastic
